  • What is the adoption fee and what does it include?
Our standard package is for two pigs, cage, water bottle, pellet dish, hide(s) and a hay rack if available. The fee is currently $80. If you choose to adopt the pigs only because you already have a good sized cage or in the case where you are adopting one pig to bond with your current one, the fee is $20 per pig.
  • Are the pigs all vet checked?
We don't routinely take every pig to the vet but we do perform a vet approved pre-screening. If any health concerns are uncovered during the screening, they then see the vet and are not released for adoption until the vet deems them healthy again.
  • Is it possible to adopt just one guinea pig from GPS?
Yes! And no. We want all our pigs to have a friend. They are very social animals and do so much better when they do. So we only adopt out singles to those seeking a friend for their current pig. We work with you through the bonding process for the safest and best chance for success. We also have an open door policy, where if you take the new pig home and after a settling in period, the two are not getting along, you can bring them back and we'll try again with someone new till we find a good match.
  • Is there somewhere I can go to view all the pigs?
Yes! We have regular adoption events at local pet stores where we showcase as many pigs as possible at one time. Those are posted on our FB page under events along with pictures and profiles of available pigs in our photo albums. While there is no physical location where they are all together at once, this is for the benefit of the pigs, to ensure that they get the attention they need and deserve!
  • I need to rehome my pigs. What should I do? What do I need to know?
Fill out a Rehome Request on the website under Rehoming. Someone will contact you shortly. There are two ways we categorize and prioritize rehomings. Non-Urgent Most rehomings fall under this category, and are usually for reasons such as the pigs are not getting enough attention or the kids have lost interest. In these cases, there is no immediate threat to the family or the pigs. The family is asked to continue caring for their own pigs until we can find an available foster home or an adoptive home is found. Urgent These are situations where allergies or other medical issues are severe enough that it is not just inconvenient but impossible for the family to house them any longer. It is also urgent if the pigs have severe medical issues that require immediate attention. If the pigs or the family are in immediate medical distress, we classify it as an Urgent Rehome. These will be prioritized when seeking foster homes.
  • Is there a fee to rehome my pigs?
There is no fee to post them for rehoming, however there is a $20 deposit per pig if you wish to include them in one of our Adoption Events. This is refunded when either the pigs are adopted at the show or they are picked up at the end of it. Since we only house them through foster homes, we have no where to bring any unclaimed pigs and so we would have no choice to surrender them to the Humane Society. The deposit would then go to cover the fee they charge for surrender.
